Film Portraits


This blog was supposed to be a space for me to record bird photography. But I also need a platform for sharing other photography I'm working on. It's presumptuous to have a website for photos when I could easily name scores of people that live within 5 miles of me that take better photos- bird or otherwise-than I do. But it's more personal. This is a place where I can curate my favourite photos. See how I grow in photography.  Record life growing around me.

This is my second roll of film (4th if you count the two rolls I didn't load properly). Taken with a Canon A1. Mostly 50mm and 100mm lenses. I decided to focus the entire roll on portraits of my kids so that I could practice on adorable but uncooperative subjects.

Fall Migration

One of the better things of fall is the reemergence of birds missed in the spring migration. Contrary to our seasonal assumptions the spring migration occurs in a budding though still stark landscape. This, alongside the breeding plumage of birds, makes it a favourite time of the year for birders. The fall migration is equally challenging of seasonal stereotypes, occurring when summer is still overgrown. Birds being seasonal pioneers, migrate before seasons do. Fall migration is the opposite of spring. Lush landscapes. Moulting birds. And for whatever headache it gives me in trying to identify whatever grey-ish brown bird I'm seeing for the 300th time, the season brings its own enjoyment. Neither better or worse than any other season. Just its own. Taking photos in fully grown landscapes can be challenging.
